What are Different Carpet Cleaners?

Steam cleaning
It is also referred to as hot water extraction, which involves using an especially designed machine that applies high-pressure steam to the carpet fibers to dissolve the dirt and extract it in the holding tank. A steam cleaning machine uses a pro carpet cleaning agent with water and is agitated through the bushes part of the machine. Once the dirt and water are removed, the final rinse is done. After steam cleaning, carpets are left to dry for a few hours at room temperature.

Pros
  • A super easy and common method used by homeowners.
  • Best carpet cleaning method.
  • The perfect method for eliminating odor, bacteria, and dirt.
  • Doesn't involve chemicals.

Cons
  • This method requires too much drying time.

Encapsulation
Other cleaners include the foam encapsulation machine that works by applying the chemical foam. These form crystals around the dirt, and once the foam dries, it can be removed easily by a brush or a vacuum.

Pros
  • Super easy to implement.
  • Be assured as no dirt or chemical is left behind.
  • Dries very quickly.

Cons
  • Cna is difficult for homeowners to take as it requires heavy equipment.
  • Manpower is very much needed.
  • Not effective on oil or greasy stains.
  • Chemicals are expensive

Bonneting

This is an excellent option in places such as hotels where there are high chances of carpets becoming very dirty. It uses machines with a heavy pad immersed with chemicals and rubbed on the carpet. The carpet is then cleaned with chemicals that loosen the dirt, and pads rub the carpet.

Pros
  • The easiest method to clean the carpet.
  • No waiting time for the carpet to dry.
  • Cost is relatively low as compared to hot water extraction.
  • An excellent choice for spot cleaning.

Cons
  • Works perfectly on the surface of the carpet and not deep inside.
  • Dirt and chemicals can be part of the residue after cleaning.
  • It can be used as a temporary method as it absorbs only one-third of dirt.

Dry carpet cleaning
This was a very popular method in the 80s and involved using machines that applied cleaning compounds with counter-rotating brushes. It doesn't use water, and there is no drying time.

Pros
  • No prior experience is required to perform.
  • Modern and easy method.
  • Safe to practice.
  • The carpet dries faster.

Cons
  • Faulty or low equipment can leave the absorbent powder as residue on the carpet.
  • It can be difficult to practice, especially when someone has allergies.

These are the different ways to use cleaners and clean carpets. Whether you choose to hire a professional for
clean carpet services, or do it by yourself, there is no harm in learning more about these machines. If you wish to invest in a carpet cleaning machine, you should also research and find the suitable one to meet your needs. It's interesting to know that the products used for steam cleaning are agitated through the bushes part of the machine which are pro products. In that case, commercial carpet cleaning should definitely be done by experts because it would mean that the process has to be done by someone with experience and have gone through training. In my opinion, no matter the purpose is, it is best to ensure that the right tools and chemicals are used properly to prevent damaging the fabric that you have on your property.

I love that you point out that steam cleaning is one of the best methods to clean carpets. My partner and I have started noticing that our carpets aren't looking too clean even after we vacuum. We've been looking into having the professionally steam cleaned so that they can look and feel brand new again.
